Why dashboards?

Dashboards save your time by presenting all the information about your business in a single place. In Exponea you are not constrained to a set of predefined dashboards. You are completely free to create your own from scratch.

Creating new dashboard

In menu navigate to Dashboards. Click create new button to create new empty dashboard.

Create dashboard by placing various Dashboard components into the Dashboard canvas.

Dashboard canvas

Dashboard canvas is a space where you place (by drag&dropping) dashboard components. Canvas is split into a 12 column grid. This means that each component must take at least 1/12 space of the whole dashboard width. The 12 column grid allows you to resize and place components freely within the canvas. After you place a component into the canvas, it will try to use the full width of the dashboard.

Dashboard components

Dashboard components are split into two groups – analyses and other. While Analyses and Metrics are created in correspondent parts of Exponea, HTML and Simple text components are always unique to a single dashboard.


When you place a dashboard component into the canvas, a modal pops up.

Analysis to display

Here you can select the analysis that should be displayed in the dashboard.

From another project

Checking this option lets you add analyses from your other projects (if you are in more projects).

Auto resize height

If unchecked, you will have to specify the height of the component by yourself.

Show description

If checked, the description of analysis will be displayed at the top of component. You can edit description of analyses in their Edit mode by clicking Info button.


When analysis supports more than one view, this option will let you choose which view to show.


Since metric is a special type of a sub-analysis, it has a special set of properties available.

Date range

Setting a date range from the Metric settings popup will override.

Comparison with

Comparison is useful when you want to have a quick overview of the trend of your most important KPIs.

Comparison of a metric is possible with:

  • previous period
    • only possible when Date range is checked
    • will compare the metric with the value of the metric from the previous period (the length of the previous period is the same as the lenght of the original period from the Date range)
    • example: metric for the last 7 days returns number 78. Previous period is thus last 7 days before 7 days. The value of the metric for this period is 60. The comparison value will then be +30%.
  • different date range
    • same as previous period but you have the option to choose an arbitrary date range
  • custom defined metric
    • use this option if you want to compare one metric with completely another one
    • example: comparing purchases of last 7 days to average weekly purchases for a certain period
    • First metric is defined as a simple count while the other one is a formula that computes average.

Set goal

Here you can define a goal for the metric. It will be displayed as a progress bar.

Adding HTML component opens up WYSIWYG HTML editor. With this editor it is possible to embed images, format text, create links or complex menus and even insert iframes. However, we recommend you to use advanced features if you know how.

Simple text

Simple text component allows you to enter text without formatting options.

Home dashboard

It is possible to set one dashboard per project as project Home. Then it becomes available in one click from the menu. You will also see this dashboard upon logging in and selecting your project.

We recommend you to choose the most important dashboard such as Business overview dashboard as your Home one.

Setting home dashboard

There are 2 ways how you can set a dashboard as your Home.

From edit mode

Check the option Set as project’s Home Dashboard and save the dashboard.

From dashboard list view

Click the little house icon and confirm your selection in the popup.




Global filters

Dashboard filters are useful to create and use additional filters on analyses in dashboard.

There are 2 modes for defining and setting global dashboard filters.

Filter definition

By clicking Add custom filter you can add a new filter. This filter can be based on event attributes or customer attributes.

Example – event attribute:

We chose attribute category of event view item. This will allow us to filter all view item events in dashboard by attribute category.

Similarly, we can choose customer attribute (such as segmentation) to be the second filter.

Filter preview (set)

In the Preview you can choose the filtering options based on the values you are offered. When many values are available for a single filter, the multiple select field is shown. If there are only few values for a single filter, checkboxes appear.

It is also possible to change the global date filter. By default the date filter works as an additional date filter – it doesn’t override filters inside the analyses. To change this behavior go to Filter definition and change Date filter mode from Intersect to Override.

Applying filter

You can apply the chosen filter by clicking the Apply changes button that appears after changing the filter. Then Dashboard is recomputed immediately.

More actions

You can access more actions by clicking on the three dots in the top right side of the page


Presentation mode

This will hide the side menu and setting and will adjust the displayed part to be presentable

Send via email

You can send a current state of the dashboard via an email to your email address daily or weekly

Share with public

This will create a custom link for the dashboard which will be accessible even without login and access rights to the dashboard in Exponea

Clone to another project

This allows to clone the dashboard with individual components to another project you have access to
